Evidence provides support for claims. A claim with enough evidence for it is one that can be reasonably believed by those with that evidence. Evidence then plays a crucial role in critical thought. An argument is a way of providing evidence for a claim, and evidence also is needed for the premises of an argument if the argument is itself to be evidence for its conclusion. Evidence can come from many sources. For example, you may make an observation that is evidence for a claim, but you may also have evidence for the claim if a trustworthy person reports having that observation.
