The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or DSM, is the official psychodiagnostic classification system developed in the United States. The most recent version, the DSM-5, is a system used to classify mental disorders so clinicians are able to better communicate. The DSM system of classification examines psychological disorders, as well as general medical conditions, psychosocial and environmental problems and global levels of functioning. The goal of this system is to impart information beyond a traditional diagnostic label.
