In trying to counsel an employee who is apparently highly stressed,a manager can not limit consideration of the sources of that employee's stress to work-related experiences only and still come up with an effective diagnosis and action plan for dealing with the employee's problems.

Stress

A psychological and physical response to demands that exceed an individual’s coping abilities.

Work-Related Experiences

Encounters or activities that an individual has while employed, contributing to their professional skills and knowledge.

Diagnosis

The process of identifying a disease, condition, or problem by analyzing its symptoms and signs, and sometimes through further medical testing.

  • Acknowledge the impact of work and life experiences on stress accumulation.
  • Understand the impact of organizational behavior on stress.
