How do most political candidates seek media coverage?

Traditionally,most candidates for elected office seek coverage in the mainstream and social media and then "echo" it in handouts,Facebook posts,or other materials.Others will generate their own materials--position papers,statements,photo opportunities etc.--and post them on the campaign site,supplementing or even bypassing the traditional media.
