Ethnomethodologists tend to be highly critical of mainstream sociology.

Ethnomethodologists see mainstream sociology as too focused on abstract theories and concepts, and not giving enough attention to how people actually make sense of and create their social reality through ordinary, everyday activities. They also argue that sociology often assumes a shared understanding of social norms and rules, without considering how individuals interpret and negotiate these norms in different contexts.
