Stereotyping is the tendency to generalize about people in a social category and ignore variations among them.Categories on which people might base a stereotype include race, age, gender, ethnic background, religion, social class, and occupation. There are three specific aspects to stereotyping: We distinguish some category of people; we assume that the individuals in this category have certain traits; and we perceive that everyone in this category possesses these traits.
