How does shift work affect families?

Atypical work schedules can create problems because one or both parents spend less time with children,provide less supervision and help with homework,and are less likely to attend school activities.These problems are usually worse when the children are younger than age 14.Shift work parents of adolescents are generally just as likely as those with day schedules to spend as much time with their children and to know about their activities,probably because adolescents are more independent and parents have learned to cope with the challenges of shift work.
