Having good research and inquiry skills involves being able to

D) ask the right questions.

We often fail to understand things because we are not asking the right questions. For instance, asking why the Nazis were such twisted monsters does not yield any useful information about the human condition-information we really need if we want to avoid repeating history. Milgram's question, however, did in fact tell us something useful about how to avoid abusive situations, i.e. that when ordinary people are put in the position of obeying an authority figure, they generally do. Guidelines for behavior between groups of people with a power differential, e.g. experimenter/subject, professor/student, employer/employee, etc., can be developed from Milgram's results.
