Discuss privacy concerns and legal protection against invasion of privacy today.

Technological advances facilitate the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information, which has led to increased concerns regarding issues of privacy. Because there is not yet clearly recognized tort of invasion of privacy at common law in most provinces, privacy protection is to be found in legislation. Good students will discuss examples of provincial and federal privacy statutes that protect personal information from abuses in both the public and private sectors. Federal examples include the Privacy Act and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. Provincial examples will vary province to province.
