By the age of 10,boys were directed to vocational training and higher education in preparation for the labour market,and girls were streamed into domestic science courses.Gendered expectations reinforced teachers' and parents' notions that girls and boys should be prepared for different occupational and social roles;girls were prepared to be housewives or to work in a limited set of nurturing occupations while boys were prepared for vocational trades or advanced studies.Gender divisions in education are still seen as girls are more likely to be encouraged to go into female-oriented fields such as education,health care,and the social sciences while boys are directed into math and natural sciences.
