Advantages: older mothers are more likely to be married and highly educated,tend to work in professional occupations and have higher incomes,older mothers tend to feel more self-assured and better prepared for parenthood,they are less likely to feel trapped,older fathers have established careers that may allow them more flexibility to spend time with family,they may also feel more relaxed than younger fathers.Disadvantages: women over 40 are at greater risk for having a baby with Down's syndrome,there may be a larger than normal generation gap between parents and children,older mothers in professional occupations may feel guilty about cheating both work and family of their time,parents may be mistaken for grandparents,and parents may not live to see their grandchildren.
