Describe community-based action research,and outline one challenge associated with this approach.

Community-based participatory research involves an equitable partnership between the researchers and members of the community that is being researched and is aimed at creating positive community change.While the goals of community-based participatory research are certainly laudable,there are significant challenges involved in eliciting active and meaningful participation from community members.As you can imagine,the community members who might be best able to participate in all aspects of research that address relevant community goals are likely to be most similar to the academic researchers who partner with them; that is,they are likely to be higher in education,fluent in the language of the researchers,and able to assertively express their perceptions of their community's struggles and needs.The challenge for community-based researchers,then,is to incorporate methods into their research that allow for people who are truly different from the researchers to contribute meaningfully to the research.
