Are older adults willing to relocate to residences for the elderly? Why or why not?

Answers will vary. When older people can no longer manage living on their own, they may consider utilizing the services of home health aides and visiting nurses to help them remain in the home. More affluent older people can afford to hire live-in help. Others may move in with adult children. Still others may move into assisted living residences, in which they have their own apartments, community dining rooms, 24-hour nursing aid, and on-call physician care. Older adults may be reluctant to relocate to nursing homes because nursing homes signify the loss of independence. Surveys indicate that older adults are relatively more willing to enter nursing homes when they perceive themselves to be in poor health and when one or more close family members live near the nursing home.
